EyeOh 0.4.0 was packaged without a PostHog project token, PostHog host, or Sentry DSN. Its statistics and crash-reporting controls are unavailable, so no EyeOh analytics or crash reports leave your Mac.
Who provides EyeOh
Dark Ice Interactive Pty Ltd (“Dark Ice”) provides the official EyeOh website and signed downloads.
Information that stays on your Mac
EyeOh reads the audio routes and cameras that macOS exposes locally so it can display and change your chosen preference. It stores these items in local app preferences:
- the display name, Core Audio route and Bluetooth address of a paired Bluetooth audio device EyeOh has already seen;
- separate volume presets for capable input and output devices;
- whether to launch at login and whether disconnected Bluetooth shortcuts should remain visible; and
- the state of the currently unavailable diagnostics choices.
EyeOh does not upload device names, hardware identifiers, Bluetooth addresses, volume values, camera choices, or these local preferences.
Microphone, camera and Bluetooth access
EyeOh never captures microphone samples and does not request microphone-recording permission. Camera access is requested only when you explicitly open the local preview; its capture session stops when the preview closes, and EyeOh does not record, save, analyse, or transmit frames.
Bluetooth access is used only after you click a remembered disconnected audio device. EyeOh asks macOS to reconnect that already-paired device. It does not scan for arbitrary nearby accessories, pair new devices, or connect them automatically.
Diagnostics code that is not active today
The open-source project contains consent-gated support for limited product statistics through PostHog and native crash or hang reporting through Sentry. Those paths require release-time provider configuration that is absent from EyeOh 0.4.0. Disabled code is not collection.
Dark Ice will update this policy and complete provider-side privacy, retention, abuse-prevention, receipt and deletion checks before distributing any build with either service connected. A configured build must continue to show separate controls and must not send device names, recordings, screenshots, contact details, email content, or free text.
Website hosting and download measurement
The EyeOh website is hosted on Cloudflare. When you click an EyeOh download button, the browser sends an empty first-party POST request to the site’s /analytics/download endpoint while continuing to the signed DMG. Cloudflare’s aggregate Pages Function metrics count successful requests to that one endpoint for up to three months.
The request contains no EyeOh analytics payload. Dark Ice does not set or write an analytics cookie, visitor or device identifier, account information, referrer, URL parameters, or free text. This count shows download-button intent; it cannot prove that the transfer, installation, or first launch completed. Cloudflare may process ordinary connection metadata as the hosting provider.
The website does not use a third-party browser analytics beacon, advertising cookies, behavioural tracking, or PostHog. Its light/dark control stores only your chosen colour theme in local browser storage. Cloudflare may separately process ordinary request, security, and delivery logs as part of operating the hosting service under its own terms.
Questions and requests
Because the current app sends no EyeOh diagnostics and has no account, Dark Ice holds no app analytics record to look up for this release. For a privacy question, email darkice@darkice.co.
